Roasting Grains and Malts with our DirectRoaster!
A few months ago we introduced our new innovation, the DirectRoaster. It is the most energy efficient roaster machine to date. Aside from the exceptional coffee roasting the DirectRoaster is capable of, it can also deliver great results with grains and malts such as wheat and barley. After being requested by many people at the Drinktec fair, we finally gave it a shot and tested our machine with these products. Grain and malt roasting allows brewers and distillers to create new and unique flavour profiles for their products. The DirectRoaster’s even convection heat distribution over each particle inside the drum allows for extremely consistent colour and development across each particle, ensuring a homogeneous flavour.

The process looks very similar to coffee roasting and can still be customised to the user’s preference. The time of roast can be between 10-20 mins at temperatures between 175-250°C. These times and temperatures are easy for the roaster to get up to and maintain due to the energy recovery system and the dual-walled drum. Overall, the same even, consistent results we have seen in coffee also apply to grains and malts, giving brewers and distillers alike the option to further improve the quality and complexity of their products.
