Interview with Wim Roest - The New Operational Director of iStill!
Welcome to iStill! Can you tell us a bit about your background and what led you here?
My background is in engineering and production, spanning through various industries. I started in aircraft manufacturing and later worked on space projects, superyachts, micro-satellites, and machine building. Over the years, I’ve been involved in high-precision manufacturing and innovative engineering, always focusing on quality and reliability. When the opportunity arose to join iStill, it felt like a perfect fit - an exciting company with a strong foundation in innovation, where I can contribute to its next phase of growth.
What do you see as the most important next steps for iStill?
iStill is at an important stage in its journey - it is becoming more mature as a company. My focus is on strengthening its stability, reliability, and continuity while ensuring we stay innovative and socially engaged. We are moving towards a more customer-oriented operation, where we are not just a supplier of distillation equipment but a trusted partner of distillers worldwide. Our goal is to be the go-to place for high-quality distillation technology, reliable service, and top-tier education.
What do you find the most exciting about working at iStill?
iStill is a wonderful company, born from the visionary ideas of Odin, who has designed and produced groundbreaking, forward-thinking products. There’s a spirit of innovation here that’s truly inspiring. The challenge now is to build on that creative energy and take the company to the next level, while ensuring that our customers continue to receive the most reliable and efficient solutions in the industry.
Do you have a personal connection to spirits? Are you more of a whiskey, rum, or gin enthusiast?
I wouldn’t call myself a connoisseur, but I know what I like. For me, taste is king. It’s all about balance, character, and the experience of enjoying a well-crafted spirit.
Outside of work, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I love being outdoors - walking in nature and taking in the beauty of the surroundings. Another passion of mine is riding my Moto Guzzi California Jackal - there’s something special about the freedom of the open road. And of course, I always enjoy simply sitting on a terrace, relaxing with a good glass of something special, and appreciating the moment.
