Great Taste, the world’s most coveted food awards, which celebrates the very best in food and drink, has announced the Great Taste stars of 2017. Having completed a PhD in Bio Chemistry, The Cornish Distilling Co.'s Head Distiller Tom Read set out to create one of Cornwall's first scratch distilled rums from the distillery based at Norton Barton Artisan Food Village. Kalkar is the first product that will be released in the line of Cornish rums, and Tom is ecstatic to have received such a glowing recognition of the innovation and quality in coffee rum that Kalkar will bring to the market.

The judges feedback was amazing, and to be told that Kalkar ‘raises the bar on coffee liqueurs’ is a huge compliment. Judged by over 500 of the most demanding palates, belonging to food critics, chefs, cooks, restaurateurs and producers, as well as a whole host of food writers and journalists, Great Taste is widely acknowledged as the most respected food accreditation scheme for artisan and speciality food producers. As well as a badge of honour, the unmistakable black and gold Great Taste label is a signpost to a wonderful tasting product, which has been discovered through hours and hours of blind-tasting by hundreds of judges.

What is Great Taste?
Great Taste is the largest and most trusted accreditation scheme for fine food and drink. Established in 1994, it encourages and mentors artisan food producers, offering a unique benchmarking and product evaluation service leading to an independent accreditation that enables small food and drink businesses to compete against supermarket premium own label brands.
Since 1994 over 122,300 products have been assessed. This year 12,366 products were blind-tasted by panels of specialists: top chefs, cookery writers, food critics, restaurateurs and fine food retailers.
